Father of Newgrass

This website's biography has an error. Sam was declared the "FATHER of Newgrass Music" by the Kentucky Senate (but don't tell the CMA!). I don't believe that anyone has been crowned the King yet.

mandolinist as CMA's Musician of the Year

I haven't been tuning into country radio in many years. So I'm shocked that Sam has been nominated in the past 4 years for CMA's Musician of the Year Award! Since I doubt that CMA awards bluegrass musicians who don't play on records in the Top 40 Charts, is Sam playing mandolin on Top 40 records now? (He may be the first mandolinist nominated in this category.)

Sam's fiddling

Sam was a junior fiddle champion, and he was advised by Bill Monroe to stick to fiddlin' when he demonstrated his mandolin playing to Bill. So I'm curious why has Sam not professionally played his fiddle much? (I assume that Sam became a better player on the mandolin than the fiddle.)
